Propeller & Rudder Protection
Propeller
Aquamatic III protects the propeller and any exposed shafting with
a slipring that is installed around the intermediate shaft and grounded to the hull to
make these appendages electrically common with the hull. This enables
the appendages to receive cathodic protection from the system fitted to the hull in
the normal way.
The slipring is a high efficiency silver material custom-fit
to the particular shaft diameter. High silver content carbon brushes
mounted in an adjustable holder provide the hull-to-slipring contact
for proper grounding.
Rudder
The rudder is protected by bonding the rudder stock to the ship's
hull by a flexible copper cable of low electrical resistance. This
cable can be welded or brazed but must not be bolted.
